Project Overview

I used to hear many stories of children in foster care because my mom used to work hands-on with them. I learned they were given 2 trash bags with all of their belongings and told to live at a stranger's house. I wanted to help change that. I hope to give these children a sense of comfort. I will be providing a backpack full of essentials (toothbrush, deodorant, hairbrush, water bottle, shampoo/conditioner, and a razer), a fun activity (books, movies(if allowed), small toys and hand puzzles), and something comforting (blanket and stuffed animal). I hope to one day partner with my moms' company, IPPI in Meriden CT, and give these backpacks to these children and teens.

Collaboration

At the beginning of this journey, I had my mom and some of her coworkers help me decide on a topic. My mom, continuously throughout, has helped me with wording, detailing, and giving me her experience when she was a behavior analyst working with foster kids. Two people are featured in my elevator pitch, Maggie Sherwin and Ellie Esteves. They both help me whenever I need it throughout this project. My final pitch featured Susie Larson, a foster parent who gave great feedback!

Kaiden Esteves

I'm Kaiden (15), and I'm a continuous honors student at Wamogo Highschool. I've had the opportunity to work hands-on with children (5-12) for the past two years. I've learned a lot about them and took it into account when creating my backpacks.
