Project Overview

Art Through the Ages is a journey through the history of art around the world. In this project, I recreated eight works that were originally created during various movements that occurred over time. These include self-portrait drawings, etchings, pointillism paintings, and even a Greek pottery vessel. These recreations were created entirely with both colored and graphite pencils and without the use of tracing or any drawing aids, and over the course of one month, I acquired a greater understanding of the styles used by the masters and translated them into my drawings, which was quite a learning experience. I also created a timeline featuring each piece, and included information about my experience with the pieces, their original artists, and the backstories of each piece, in a formal presentation that is similar to a trip through an art museum.

Collaboration

This was largely an independent project, but my family members played an important role in the completion of each recreation. During various stages of every drawing, I was given valuable criticism, which I applied if possible. This made the pieces look much more realistic, and closer to their original works as well. I was also given support throughout my entire project by grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, who viewed my works and constantly told me that I should keep up the great work. Without this level of support, I would probably not be at this point right now, and therefore I am unbelievably grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way.

Aidan Briatico

My name is Aidan, and I am a 9th grade student at Wamogo Regional High School. I have been drawing for my entire life, but I began creating realistic drawings about three years ago. My favorite place to be is the woods, and I was lucky enough to go on a thirty-day trip across the United States two years ago, in which I visited multiple national parks, including the Grand Canyon and Zion. This deep love of nature inspired me to draw many animals in the past year, and I enjoyed this so much that I started a YouTube channel featuring time-lapse videos of my drawings, which has been put on hold for the past month. Apart from the creation of art, I am also very interested in its history, and I have visited multiple art museums around the country, which was possible due to my five years of home school prior to this year. I recently completed an online course on art history to expand upon my knowledge of art, and this ultimately inspired my PIP project.
