I had an hour to waste yesterday and decided to go out with a couple of rods and a mission to catch some crappie. It didn't take long to catch a few on the jigheads. I'm 100% certain that the jigheads will perform perfectly.

The jig heads have proven to be successful once again. I went out this morning and caught a few nice fish. The hooks and molded heads stood up great to multiple bites and banging against rocks and wood. Their durability is definitely being put to the test and so far they have performed flawlessly.

Making the jig heads has given me a very good insight into just how effective and important shapes and sizes are. I have been using the jig heads in different conditions and have learned to choose the right lure for the right task, and how to better make them. The testing will continue!!!

I went out Saturday morning and managed to catch the one fish on the newly made jig heads. It's still super tough to get a bite this time of year. I'm hoping in the upcoming weeks as the weather warms I'll be able to get out more and more and use the jig heads.

As the production of the jigs moves along further I am learning more and more of the process involved. I tried the jigs on Wednesday and didn't have any luck. Hoping this weekend I can use them again and record any catches.

Once I glue in the weed guards then it's time to weave on the skirts. These skirts are silicon strands and help give the jig its profile in the water. I have a variety of colors and patterns for any situation. I also can trim or lengthen the skirt to give a different action and look.

After painting the heads the centering hole for the fiber weed guards is closed so I needed to drill those open and then I was able to superglue in the weed guards.

I had a predicament when trying to figure out how to paint the lead heads. To cure the powder coat they need to be baked. So I got to use the old toaster oven. I did a trial run tonight to see its effectiveness. It worked and worked really well. I'll do a bigger batch tomorrow and show the process.

I started making some prototypes with the painted heads. The final result wasn't quite as polished and nice as I would have hoped for l will make a video next week showing the coloring and skirting process. until then I'll work on perfecting the color combinations.

This is the full production of the jigs. I meltdown the lead ingots then place the hooks and pour the molds. I have gotten pretty fast and efficient with the process. It only takes me about twenty minutes to make a few dozen jigs. The next step is to paint the heads with a powder coat.

I set up all my gear today and got to testing. Getting over the learning curve took a few failed attempts but eventually, I figured it out. After about half an hour of little success, I finally realized the strategy and started pouring clean jigs. Next week I'll post the process in its entirety, as for now I still need to keep experiment to get comfortable with all the tools and equipment.

I scavenged my disaster of a basement for some tools I think will be helpful when I finally get to making the lures. I also installed an old vice I found onto the workbench so if I need to sand or file any lead it can be easier.

I've started to collect old things around the house like these Xbox games. I'm selling them on apps like Facebook marketplace and Mercari, in hopes of gathering more funds to invest in the setup over time. So far I've made almost seventy-five dollars in the past few days selling. I'll most likely use the money towards material for bait making.
