Project Overview

What is my project about? Well,I would love to share it! I chose to do origami for my PIP project. I have always been interested in origami but i have never got the chance to do it so I decided to take this opportunity to learn the basics of origami. To best showcase the Origami that I created, I decided on an Art Installation. I have aptly named my Art Installation, IN CHAOS WE FIND PEACE. I will be creating a large Art Installation with 50-60 origami butterflies. These butterflies will be created in the colors: black, white and grey. The butterflies will represent the overarching feeling of the people of the world going into the year 2020. The black butterflies and their chaotic placement will illustrate the emotional turmoil of all the underpinnings of 2020. They will be hanging from a large branch and will surround a global. The global will represent the world wide pandemic, and that there are no areas in the world that were unaffected by what was happening. The grey butterflies will hang in a slightly better format, however, they will have logos on them. This logos will illustrate all the stressors of 2020. For example, BLM, COVID-19, ROITS, POLICE, 2020 ELECTION, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS , STORMING THE CAPITAL, PPPs, NO SCHOOL, etc. The right side will have the white butterflies in an orderly fashion, white will represent peace as the world is hoping for a more peaceful time.

Collaboration

I have envisioned this project in my head, but I certainly needed to find guidance and help to make it a success. Collaboration was an important tool when creating an art installation. My family has been very encouraging and helpful in sourcing the supplies that I needed to execute the project, helping to create the trailer and overall support. The Woodbury Middle School Art teacher, Mrs. Skalkos helped form my final vision. Her talent and experience helped me recognize that I was heading in the right direction in learning Origami as well as implementing an Art Installation. Woodbury Middle School Capstone Teacher Mrs. Shuhart was a guiding force and helpful in helping me learn and stagy engaged in the personal project process and on track with my project timelines.

Lauren Lavertue

Hello! My name is Lauren Lavertue. I attend Woodbury Middle School, I am in 8th grade and currently 13 years old. I come from a large family. I am 1 of five siblings. I am stuck right in the middle! But being the middle child has it's perks "We might get passed-down clothes and second-hand toys, but that makes us a lot more low-maintenance to take care of!" said unknown. I consider myself to be sensitive, introspective and empathic to all around me. I enjoy life with a giggle and a little bit of good fun. Art is a great relief and can be just the vehicle to help me express my inner thoughts by creating a beautiful installation for all to look at and consider. I am also interested in writing and history.
